Personal Bio: Dr. Frances Wood is a board-certified interventional and clinical cardiologist with a specialty in structural cardiology. She currently focuses on preventive cardiology, cardiac imaging, valvular disease and coronary artery disease. Dr. Wood enjoys cardiac imaging including cardiac computed tomography angiography (CTA), nuclear, echo and MRI.
Dr. Wood provides a unique perspective when it comes to complex cardiac cases. She can integrate imaging results with technical performance skills know-how to provide recommendations for treating patients with complicated heart issues.
Dr. Wood served as the Cardiology Director of WakeMed’s Structural Heart Program from 2015 until 2024 and retired from procedural interventions in 2024. Her procedural skillset included complex coronary interventions, TAVR, percutaneous mitral valve procedures, ASD/PFO closure, and left atrial appendage closure.
Originally from Goldsboro, N.C., Dr. Wood taught high school science classes, coached multiple sports then worked as a clinical trials coordinator at WakeMed in Raleigh, even before going to medical school.
The patient always comes first and Dr. Wood treats everyone like family. The goal is collaborate with the patient, primary care and referring provider. She joined Randolph and Novant in March 2025 to expand the cardiac services in Asheboro with the goals of continuity of care between hospital and outpatient and immediate office visits upon request.
Outside of medicine, she enjoys relaxing at the lake, exercising, and playing golf with her husband.
